CONTENT 


Petroleum Nasional Berhad, also known as PETRONAS, is a Malaysian oil and gas company. It was established in 1974 and is wholly owned by the Government of Malaysia. PETRONAS's mission is to be the leading brand for oil and gas between multinational companies, while its vision is to develop and add value to petroleum resources wherever it operates, converting these resources into higher-value products that would satisfy the needs of customers and bring benefits to the people. Now, PETRONAS has a presence in more than 65 countries and operates among the top oil and gas companies in the world.



1. Purpose


The purpose of the PETRONAS website is to inform the public regarding its products and services. The website gives information or insight about PETRONAS businesses, activities, projects, investors, innovation, and more information about the company. Detailed, proper, and relevant information for each category and subcategory is written in a compact but organized page arrangement on the website. 



2. Content


The content lives up to the site title where the content is neatly arranged and packed with needed information related to the PETRONAS company. Every section is full of information regarding PETRONAS company and businesses. Categories are created at the top of the website to make it easier for the viewers to click on each category. Viewers also can scroll down to view the company activities and projects such as PETRONAS MotorsSports and companies collaborations.  The content of the PETRONAS website is fascinating and interesting to look at where each corner is filled with pictures, maps, and videos to attract viewers' attention and focus. 



3. Text


The written text on the PETRONAS website is clear, readable, and focused. A nice flow and detailed explanation for each subcategory and category are written in neat and powerful writing to make viewers find the paragraph interesting to read. Each paragraph has its own focus, coherence, unity, and development in the given explanation. These factors are essential to attract readers to focus on the content. PETRONAS web writers did a great job in writing the website's content based on the arrangement of the text, word choice, grammar, sentence structure, and fluency. Each of these criteria plays an essential role in creating good and proper web writing to attract viewers' attention to the web content. For instance, under the Sustainability category, the subcategories are Energizing Growth, Net Zero Carbon Emissions, and Four Sustainability Lenses. 


5. Style


The web style for the PETRONAS website is a Realism Business web design style. This web-style design emphasizes accuracy and realism in the design of their web. This web-style design features high-quality graphics and photos of their products and projects. As we can see on the PETRONAS website, they put great effort into choosing pictures to display on each section and page by placing high-quality pictures of their products, services, and activities on the PETRONAS website. Almost 70% of PETRONAS's website is filled with high-quality images to attract viewers' attention to help them to keep reading, scrolling, and clicking the website's content. In addition, this web-style design gives people an insight into the company’s values and informs potential customers about their products or services. PETRONAS website is able to answer customers’ inquiries about their business, briefly describe the operations and focus of their business and offer insights into anything their customers might want to know. A business web-style design is specialized to highlight the products and services on a company's website to attract customers or viewers. 


6. Display

It is important to use the same visual language when writing a webpage to make the flow of information consistent and cohesive. We can see from PETRONAS’s web design uses a similar color for the logo, background images, and overall color theme, which is emerald green. PETRONAS introduced its corporate logo as the Oil Drop and P-shape with emerald green, representing the seas and land where oil gas originated, as well as the dynamism of the company.

PETRONAS used the same emerald green for the page design and column, while a darker green for the header to highlight the information within the pages. This brand visualizes the contemporary icon while also building on the existing equity and legacy of PETRONAS company. The font used on the websites is on a medium side to help the reader easily read the content and it helps to keep the vision consistent on each page and element. 

7. Format

The format and arrangement of the visual elements on a website are important for assisting the user’s navigation and enhancing the message and usability of the website. The format for the PETRONAS website is the box-based layout that combined several pieces of content into a single geometric design. This layout neatly organized the information by priority, so each element would not overshadow one another, thus resulting in a unified look. Each box directs the users to a different webpage where they can read more about the topic they are interested in. The large featured box served as the PETRONAS website’s header and the different smaller boxes with visuals displayed in each box form a centralized PETRONAS identity. The neatly arranged information helps the users navigate through the website. 


8. Ready for printing

PETRONAS website did not particularly have the means to use a ready for printing job within the website. Fortunately, the users may print, download or copy the contents for personal use only. On the other hand, it is forbidden to redistribute or reproduce any part or all of the content in any form unless with PETRONAS’s permission.

9. Bulleted list

PETRONAS website did not use a bulleted list for the content arrangement. Instead, the information was written and breakdown in short and simple paragraphs to help the users understand each box of content more easily, as the website contains a lot of complicated content. The titles for each box are simple and concise to give a brief description of the connected page. 

10. One-way or two-way communication

PETRONAS website uses only one-way communication where the information was provided on the website and the users will scroll the website to read the contents. They were no direct feedback for each content page. Instead, the users can contact the PETRONAS by 3 methods:

1. There is a specific section where the users can drop a message to inquire about any information or issues you wanted to know about.

2. Users can subscribe to their newsletter by email to be updated regarding any PETRONAS’s latest development.

 

3. Users also can keep in touch with PETRONAS by following their Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

 

Also, the PETRONAS website provides the company address and company number to help the users contact them directly if they need to.
